“I’m delighted to be thought of for the role and it is a very privileged position to be in at this football club,” he said.

“It is a chance for me to step up, it is a great opportunity and one I am looking forward to with excitement.”

Jackson took charge of the under-15s in November 2015, and has worked his way up through the age groups since, winning the Professional Development League with the under-18s in 2018.

As well as 19 appearances for Leeds in the late 1990s, Jackson also had loan spells at Huddersfield and Barnsley, and finished his career with Farsley Celtic and Farsley before taking up coaching. The bulk of his professional career was spent at Scunthorpe United.
