Nokia 2 with large battery and splash proof body made official, costs only €99

Nokia 2 Android

The long rumored Nokia 2 has finally been made official in India. At an event held by HMD Global in New Delhi today, the company pulled the wraps off its latest (and its cheapest) Android smartphone. It is lower in rank in terms of features when compared with other Nokia Android series, but so is the price. At just €99 (US$115), customers will be able to grab one at any authorized stores starting from mid-November, globally.

The “lower in rank” greatly manifested in the chipset, RAM, and storage capacity the phone boasts of when compared with even the once-cheapest Nokia 3 that was introduced in February. There is no metal premium tier design ceremony for the outer layer as most of its casing is made of polycarbonate, but it does have a 6000 series aluminium frame encompassing its edges for solid feel while holding.

The Nokia 2 is powered by Qualcomm’s entry-level Snapdragon series, Snapdragon 212 Mobile Platform, with the clock speed set at 1.3GHz, paired with 1GB of RAM and Adreno 504 GPU. An 8GB storage is coupled along for offline hosting of files and data with MicroSD card slot provided to further expand the storage up to 128GB.

All the touching gesturing and flicking is done on a 5-inch screen that touts a pixel resolution of 1280×720 and a pixel density of 294ppi, layed on top with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 which serve as a protection against scratch. HMD Global claims the Nokia 2 is splash resistant certified with IP52 rating, meaning, it can be use in foggy watery areas but definitely not in bath.

The Nokia 2 runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat OS out-of-the-box with Google Assistant built-in, however, HMD Global confirmed that it is on the list of its eligible device that will receive Android 8.0 Oreo updates later in the future.

The phone measures 143.5 x 71.3 x 9.30mm and is backed by a gigantic 4100mAh battery that can renders two days of use in a single charge. It will be available in Pewter Black, Pewter White, and Copper Black colors.
