As expected today, Samsung announced its latest smartwatch dubbed Gear Sport at IFA 2017 in Berlin. The watch has a circular 1.2-inch Always-on Super AMOLED display that flaunts a pixel resolution of 360×360 and pixel density of 302PPI, protected on the surface with Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
The slight ruggedness and durable body it offers earned it a military grade MIL-STD-810G, moreover, it is 5 ATM certified for water resistant and can survive in up to 50 meters deep of water, making it suitable for swimming. For swimmers, the Gear Sport comes pre-loaded with “Speedo On” Speedo’s swimming training app for tracking various swim metrics including lap count, stroke type, and lap time.

In terms of technical specs, the smartwatch is powered by an unspecified dual-core processor with 1.0GHz clock speed, coupled with 768MB of RAM and 4GB of inbuilt storage. It runs Tizen OS and can be paired with smartphones running Android 4.4 and above or iOS 9.0 and above. Connectivity included with the Gear Sport are Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi, GPS + GLONASS + Beidou, and NFC (supports Samsung Pay).
It has heart rate sensor, Ambient light, Proximity, Barometer, and Gyroscope sensors. It is fuelled by a 300mAh rechargeable Li-ion battery with fast charging support.
Priced at €349.99 ($416), the Samsung Gear Sport will be available in Europe from October in Black and Blue colors.
At the event, Samsung also launched an upgraded version of its Gear Fit2 smartwatch dubbed Gear Fit2 Pro. It features most of the specs on Gear Sport, but this packs a slightly larger 1.5-inch Super AMOLED display and lacks a heart rate sensor. It lacks NFC as well.
