Samsung Outs W2017 Dual-Display Flip Smartphone with Heart Rate Sensor

Samsung has launched a new flip smartphone in China called W2017, the successor of W2016 that was introduced by the firm last year. It features dual 4.2-inch Super AMOLED display, one placed at the front and the other inside, both having full-HD (1920×1080) resolution. Both display are touch sensitive and can be use irrespective of apps that are running.

Under the hood, it is driven by a 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with a clock speed of 2.15GHz, slammed with 4GB of RAM and Adreno 530 GPU. There is a 64GB of storage inside which can be expanded via MicroSD card (up to 256GB). As can be expected, the phone runs Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box and offers hybrid dual SIM slots that makes the second SIM slot usable as MicroSD slot. A fingerprint scanner is embedded right below the rear camera and there is a heart rate sensor onboard as well.

In photography, the W2017 is equipped with a 12-megapixel rear-facing camera with f/1.7 aperture, Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) and LED flash, while it harbours a 5-megapixel camera at the front. The front camera is not placed outside but inside at the top of display within, meaning, users will need to flip up before they can take selfie. Connectivity options loaded with the device includes Bluetooth 4.2, WiFi 802.11ac + MIMO, 4G VoLTE, 3G, 2G, GPS/A-GPS + GLONASS, and NFC. The phone comes with a 2300mAh battery which is quite small considering its dual display and high-end processor, it however supports wireless charging and fast charging.

Samsung has again decide to bring its latest flip phone W2017 to the East and not to the West just like other Android flip phones the firm released in the past. It is uncertain that the phone will make its way outside China considering past records. No details regarding pricing yet.
