Sharp AQUOS R3

It was such an unusual feat when Sharp introduced a smartphone with two notches last year when other phone makers were sticking with one – the trend seem to continue as the firm unveiled a new device in Japan, the AQUOS R3. The phone is made to be a flagship considering its specifications, it features a 6.2-inch IGZO LCD display with QHD+ (3120×1440) resolution that flaunts a high refresh rate of 120Hz that is most common on Sharp smartphones.

The display is HDR10 certified, which means you should be able to view HDR content without issue. The first notch resides at the top of the screen where you will find a 16.3MP selfie camera housed inside, while the second notch that is more prominent is located below the screen. The second notch housed a physical home button that comes embedded with a fingerprint reader underneath.

The whole system is driven by a Snapdragon 855 7nm chipset with integrated Adreno 640 GPU, paired with 6GB of RAM. No multiple storage option, instead you get only 128GB inbuilt capacity to host your files and data. Photography is provided by dual camera that are  vertically-aligned at the upper left on the phone back – the main camera that has a 12.2MP sensor (f/1.7, 78° FOV) is specifically made for still capture, while the secondary 20MP sensor (f/2.4, 125° FOV) is reserve for video recording.

Various AI enhancements are put in place to make sure you get the best shots, among these are “AI Live Shutter” and “AI Live Story”. The AQUOS R3 runs on Android 9.0 Pie. It offer Bluetooth 5, 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11ac (2.4GHz / 5GHz), GPS, GLONASS, USB Type-C, and 3.5mm audio jack as connectivity options, and is backed by a 3,200mAh battery with supports for 11W (Qi) fast wireless charging.

Pricing and availability of the AQUOS R3 are yet to be disclose by Sharp, but considering past release, the global availability is uncertain.
