Smartisan Nut R1 Claimed World’s First Smartphone with a 1TB Internal Storage

Smartisan Nut R1

Smartisan may not sound familiar when it comes to electronics and mobile gadgets, but they’ve been in existence for more than five years, silently operating in China. The firm on Tuesday, however, come into spotlight with the launch of its new flagship smartphone called Nut R1, which was announced at its six years anniversary event that was held at Bird’s Nest national stadium in Beijing.

The Nut R1 comes with unusual specs that exist rarely or haven’t exist at all. For the first time in history we’re witnessing a 1TB of internal storage (UFS 2.1) on a smartphone, and that’s not all. The Nut R1 also uses a new technology provided by Elliptic Labs for proximity sensing. The technology uses AI-based virtual ultrasound proximity, which replace the common proximity sensor we are familiar with.

Technically, the phone features a 6.17-inch pressure-sensitive LCD display with a tiny notch at the top, flaunting a Full HD+ resolution and 18.7:9 aspect ratio. It is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor with up to 8GB of RAM coupled along. Sitting at the back of the device is 12MP+20MP dual rear camera with Sony sensors, while it is equipped with a 24MP front camera with facial recognition for face unlock.

The Nut R1 runs Android-based Smartisan OS 6, sports a fingerprint sensor at the back, and is fuelled by a 3600mAh battery with Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ and wireless charging supports. It lacks 3.5mm audio jack and only deliver audio via USB Type-C.

The Phone Cadenza unveiled by Turing in 2016 could have been the world’s first smartphone with a 1TB storage, but it never made it out. We can only hope Smartisan does not apply same boastful gimmick to gain attention.
