[Updated] The New Nokia 8.1 is the Nokia X7 For Global Market with Android 9.0 Pie

HMD Global at an event held in Dubai on Tuesday launched the Nokia 8.1, the company’s latest smartphone made for the international market. It is the global variant of the recent Nokia X7 that was China exclusive and in this regard shared identical specs with phone.

The Nokia 8.1 features a 6.18-inch PureDisplay Full HD+ (2246 × 1080) LCD display that is HDR10 certified and that supports DCI-P3 wide color gamut. The display offered 500 nits brightness, 1000:1 contrast ratio, and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. Under-the-hood is an octa-core Snapdragon 710 chipset running at a speed of 2.2GHz, paired with 4GB of LPDDR4X RAM and Adreno 616 GPU.

The phone comes with an inbuilt storage of 64GB that is user expandable up to 400GB via a MicroSD card. Residing at the back is dual camera with ZEISS optics; the primary camera has a 12MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture, 1.4μm pixel size and Sony IMX363 sensor, while the secondary rear camera has a 13MP sensor with an f/2.2 aperture for portrait shots. At the front is a 20MP camera with an f/2.2 aperture for selfie.

Security is provided by the fingerprint sensor that is hooked to the glass back of the phone in addition to face unlock brought by the front camera. The Nokia 8.1 runs Android 9.0 Pie out-of-the-box; it also supports hybrid dual SIM slot. Connectivity onboard includes Bluetooth 5, WiFi 802.11ac (dual band), Dual 4G VoLTE, 3G, GPS, GLONASS, USB Type-C, and 3.5mm audio jack.

The device metal body measures 154.8 x 75.76 x 7.97 mm, weighs 180 grams, while the power is supplied by a 3500mAh battery with supports for 18W fast charging.

The Nokia 8.1 will be available in the UAE for 1,499 Dirham ($408 USD) from December 15th in Steel/Copper, Iron/Steel, and Blue/Silver colors. It will reach the entire Middle East on December 20th, and will also hit the European market before the year is over at a price of €399 ($452 USD).

HMD Global has launched the Nokia 8.1 in India few days after it unveiled the smartphone in Europe and UAE. The phone will be heading to India on December 21st for Rs 26,999 ($378). It is available for order on Nokia online and offline stores starting today.
