Tecno has launched a new budget smartphone under its “W” line-up in Nigeria called W1. The entry-level device is clad in a plastic shell that is 10.5mm thick, painted in Gold, Blue and Black colours. It features a 4-inch capacitive touch display with a resolution of 800×480 pixel, and packs a quad-core MediaTek MT6580 processor clocked at 1.3GHz, clubbed with 1GB of RAM, Mali 400 GPU, and 8GB of inbuilt storage. The storage can be expanded up to 32GB via MicroSD card.
What makes the Tecno W1 to standout despite its not-so-impressive specifications is Android 7.0 Nougat it runs out-of-the-box, making it Tecno first cheapest smartphone to do so. Tecno last month launched L9 Plus which claimed the title of being the company’s first device to runs Nougat, it however costs nearly twice as much as the new W1.

As usual, the phone offers dual-SIM functionality with 3G supports but lacks 4G LTE, which considering its price is not much of a loss. In optics, it comes equipped with a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera with LED flash while a 2-megapixel fixed-focus camera is placed at the front for selfie, also accompanied with a LED flash.
Apart from 3G, other connectivity options the phone boasts of are Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi with Hotspot, GPRS/EDGE, A-GPS, FM radio and Micro-USB. It is backed by a 1,800mAh removable Li-ion battery.
The Tecno W1 is available for purchase on Jumia at ₦23,650 NGN in Nigeria; at KSh 4,999 in Kenya, and at UGX 195,000 in Uganda. Other online and offline stores across the regions are also selling the phone.
