Asus Announces Worlds First Smartphone That Supports both AR and VR

Asus has leap to stage at the ongoing CES2017 event to announce its latest flagship smartphone that has been rumoured for a while, the ZenFone AR. The phone claims two royal titles. First, it is world’s first smartphone to supports both Tango AR platform and Google DayDream VR, offering both Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality. Secondly, it is world’s first smartphone to packs 8GB of RAM.

With both AR and VR onboard, users are given the choice to dive into hidden reality, exploring diverse perspectives of each contents view on their mobile phone. It is to be noted that Lenovo is the first company to successfully bring Tango AR to mobile device, with its PHAB 2 Pro. At its Zenvolution event at CES, Asus said it has worked with Google and Qualcomm to bring the Tango AR to consumers.

To make a reality out of dream, the ZenFone AR is equipped with a 23-megapixel main camera with Sony IMX318 sensor and 4K video recording capability, and two motion-tracking and depth-sensing cameras. Its partnership with Google is expected to bring more AR apps to the already existing dozens of AR apps that are available on Play Store.

To be able to qualify to run Google’s DayDream platform which is already baked into Android Nougat OS it runs, the phone is loaded with a 5.7-inch Quad-HD (2560×1440 pixel) AMOLED display and is powered by Qualcomm latest Snapdragon 821 chipset. The company also touts ZenFone AR “immersive” five-magnet speaker that supports High-Res audio and is enhanced with DTS virtual surround sound system.

The Asus ZenFone AR pricing details is yet to be reveal, but the firm explicitly made it known that it will be available from second quarter of 2017.
