With Asus new convertible Chrome machine already gaining attention, Acer has made a move to show what its got at this year CES event in Las Vegas, Nevada, by announcing a new rugged Chrome laptop dubbed Chromebook 11 N7 (C731), which is primarily aimed at education sector.
Its ruggedness first start with its ability to survive a fall from heights of up to 122cm (48 inches) above ground without damaging, thanks to its conner-shield structure. The laptop comes with spill-resistant keyboard that can vomit up to 330ml of water, and its fan-less vent-less design keep it cool and silence when running. This also protects the inner chamber from accumulating dust.

According to Acer:
“It has endured rigorous testing to meet the demanding U.S. MIL-STD 810G military standard, can handle up to 132 pounds (60kg) of downward force on the top cover, while the reinforced case and hinges result in greater resistance to twisting and stress, even if students cram them into their backpacks.”
This reminds us of HP ProBook X360 11 Education Edition that was launched in December last year, which has almost same rugged properties and is aimed at students as well.
In technical aspects, the Chromebook 11 N7 features a 11.6-inch HD (1366×768) display that can tilted up to 180-degree to use on a flat surface. Acer is also offering a touchscreen variant with model number C731T with same display and resolution. Diving in, it is powered by a dual-core Intel Celeron processor of unknown clock speed, coupled with 4GB of RAM and up to 32GB of built-in eMMC storage. An external MicroSD slot included let users expand the storage to their liking.
Google Play Store is not pre-loaded on this Acer chrome laptop, but the company promise an upgrade that will enable this feature in near future. Connectivity options included are 2x USB 3.0 ports, HDMI port, Bluetooth 4.0, WiFi 802.11ac (dual band + MIMO), and 3.5mm audio combo port. Battery inside can render up to 12 hours of use, claimed Acer.
The Acer Chromebook 11 N7 will start shipping in North America later this month (January) with a price tag of US$229.99, and in EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa) regions at a starting price of €299.99 from February.
