Facebook Messenger Chat Now Accessible With Phone Number Only

Facebook has announced that starting from today username and password will no longer be required to use Facebook Messenger on both Android and iOS platform.

The firm made this known via its blog post released earlier today. The new update will begin to rollout in Canada, United States, Peru, and Venezuela starting from this week, while availability for other regions is not mentioned. All that is required is a phone number, which gives users access to chat, videos, photos, group chat, voice calling, and video calling.

Previous chat history will not be accessible when using this option, users will need to either login or register a new account for full account details. This works much like Whatsapp. On the Messenger welcome screen, an option below will says “Not on Facebook?” Clicking this will lead users to where they will input their name, phone number, and upload their photo.
