Fingerprint sensor and scanner has been one of the high end features on mobile phones being recently released and it’s gradually finding its way on low end ones, we remember Swipe fingerprint enabled smartphone, the Sense which cost only $160 USD and offers fingerprint reader. Fingerprint scanner are most time use for security purpose i.e securing files and data, but it seems the revolution of fingerprint might be getting to an end has something much more unique and secure is about to take its place.
The era of fingerprint first started in 2013 with Motorola Atrix which sports fingerprint sensor in the wake button located at the back of the phone followed by Apple iPhone 5s with the fingerprint-reader located on the home button, an innovation the firm simply called “Touch ID” but something new is here, Fingerprint scanning technology is about to be replaced by Iris scanning technology if what we perceive is true. It was first rumoured in early 2014 that Samsung is about to launch a smartphone that will features an Iris scanner which is Samsung Galaxy S5 to be precise but it never comes to pass though it does features a fingerprint sensor. However, a new phone is here to start the era of Iris scanning technology on mobile phones, the ViewSonic V55.

ViewSonic is not a popular name when it comes to mobile phone but their flame can burn up with their latest masterpiece. According to the source we have gather this report, the ViewSonic V55 is a 5.5-inch smartphone that sports an Iris Scanner at the top right side, you might not notice this as it is covered. Sliding the cover from view will trigger and enable the scanner with a notification light to alert the user that Iris Scanner have been activated. The scanner can be use to lock and unlock the device, thereby replacing entering of passcode/password, it can also be use for authentication and protection of file and data stored on the phone.
Just like fingerprint, iris pattern are unique and different in each individuals which makes it a secure means of identification. Specifications revealed are 5.5-inch full-HD (1080*1920 pixels) display, 64-bit quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, 2GB RAM, 16GB/32GB built-in storage, 13-megapixel rear camera with changeable lens and 4G LTE. Nothing is mentioned about OS it will be running and battery capacity but we expect atleast Android 4.4 KitKat to be onboard.
