The Meizu E3 has been secretly trending in the dark side of the web for a while but today it finally comes to the light. Meizu has officially pulled the wraps off the device in China and to be honest the specs looks great. Its pricing is not disappointing either.
The phone is clad in a slightly curved slender metal unibody that is 7.6mm thick, but it weighs a little more than it looks at 160 grams. This is to be expected considering the 3360mAh battery it packs behind. The screen is not so tall judging by its 18:9 aspect ratio which is a little shorter than the 19:9 that others (Huawei comes to my mind) embrace. The display uses LTPS technology for backlighting and is 5.99-inch in size, while the pixel resolution is Full HD+ (2160×1080).

An octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 636 Mobile Platform clocked at 1.8GHz powered the device, slammed with Adreno 509 GPU and 6GB of RAM. The accompanied 64GB storage is enough for everyday use, but Meizu is also offering a 128GB storage version for those who thirst for more. There is a MicroSD slot to further expand the storage up to 128GB.
Disappointingly, the modern display and decent hardware function on the company’s Flyme OS 6.3 based on the about-to-be-dated Android 7.1 Nougat, with no word on Android 8.0 Oreo update. The cameras on the Meizu E3 are pretty enticing—there are two at the back, both flaunting Sony sensors and are protected by Sapphire glass. The first has a 12MP module with f/1.9 aperture and Sony IMX362 sensor, while the secondary rear camera has a 20MP module with f/2.6 aperture and Sony IMX350 sensor, which let the phone achieve 2.5x loss-less zoom. Dual-tone LED flash is placed below these cameras for lighting. On the front is an 8MP camera with f/2.0 aperture.
The fingerprint sensor is not at the back of the Meizu E3 but at the right side below the power button. The sensor uses Meizu proprietary mTouch software for fingerprint recognition. There is hybrid dual SIM slot onboard for multi SIM use while connectivity are served by Bluetooth 5, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (dual band), 4G VoLTE, GPS, GLONASS, and USB Type-C.
The Meizu E3 price starts at CNY 1799 ($284) for the 6GB RAM + 64GB storage version, while the high-end version with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage goes for CNY 1999 ($315). It will be available for purchase in Black, Blue and Champagne Gold colors from March 31st. Pre-order begins on March 26th.
