In its pursuit to catch up with the highly-dominated 2-in-1 tablet market that has speedily attracts the attention of top technology firms in recent months, Panasonic today unleashed a new 2-in-1 Windows 10 hybrid tablet/laptop device in Europe under its Toughbook line-up called Toughbook CF-XZ6.

As its naming suggest, the tablet is rugged with its outer body layer strengthened to withstand extreme conditions or conditions that are beyond what we could called “ordinary”. The Toughbook series falls under the firm’s business portfolio, and like others in this series the tablet can adapt to and survive daily work stress without any hiccups.

While it is not MIL-STD and IP certified like some of its family, Panasonic claimed that the tablet can withstand up to 100 kilograms of weight pressure (thanks to its magnesium alloy chassis) and survive a downward fall from a height of up to 76 centimetre. These impressive properties of hers however does not burdens its weight as it remains one of the lightest its in family, weighing just 1.1kg.

Another main field of attraction is its circular touchpad which Panasonic is calling Wheel pad that offers easy navigation control. The Toughbook CF-XZ6 keyboard can be separate from the tablet and each packs it own 4-cell battery. According to what is revealed by the firm, the battery residing in the keyboard can deliver up to 7.5 hours of usage time and the one loaded at the side of the tablet up to 6.5 hours, when combined, these gives a total usage time of 14 hours. The keyboard battery is removable/replaceable while that of the tablet is not.

In terms of specifications, the Toughbook CF-XZ6 features a 12-inch Quad-HD (2160×1440) IPS capacitive touch display with 10-point multi-touch support, readily designed to works with an Active stylus pen. It is powered by a seventh-generation Intel Core i5-7300U (Kabylake) processor clubbed with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of SSD. There is also 8GB/16GB RAM with 256GB/512GB SSD versions for those who don’t mind spending more.

Connectivity options included are USB Type-C, Wi-Fi 802.11ac (dual band), and 4G LTE. The keyboard accommodates 3x USB 3.0 ports, HDMI port, Ethernet (RJ45) port, VGA and SD card reader.

The Toughbook CF-XZ6 pricing starts at £1,539 ($1,968). It will be available later this month.
