Xiaomi has launched a cheaper variant of its widely acceptable 2014 flagship smartphone, the Redmi 2 in China dubbed as Redmi 2A. The phone was announced by the firm on Tuesday to mark fifth year celebration of their existence. The Redmi 2A is priced at CNY 599 ($97 USD). To further mark their celebration, the smartphone will be available at a discounted price of CNY 499 ($80 USD) on April 8th only.
In comparison, the Redmi 2A and Redmi 2 looks alike physically and sports identical specifications, the only difference is their processor. Specwise, the Redmi 2A features a 4.7-inch HD (720p) IPS display and support dual-SIM functionality. It is powered by a quad-core Leadcore L186OC processor clocked at 1.5GHz alongside with 1GB of RAM.

The smartphone runs Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box topped with MIUI 6 UI. An 8-megapixel camera with autofocus, BSI Sensor and LED flash is equipped at the rear while it also harbours a 2-megapixel front-facing camera with HD video recording capability. The Xiaomi Redmi 2A packs an 8GB of built-in storage that is expandable up to 32GB via MicroSD card and offers 4G LTE, 3G, GPRS/EDGE, Wifi, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, and Micro-USB as connectivity options. It is fuelled by a 2200mAh battery.
The Redmi 2A will be available in five different colors White, Yellow, Dark Grey, Pink, and Light Green.
