With CES 2019 just few weeks around the corner, LG has come forward to introduced two new laptops it will be showcasing at the annual event. The Gram 17 with the model number 17Z990 and the Gram 14 with the model number 14T990 are the company’s newest addition to the “Gram” family.
The Gram 17 features a 17-inch IPS WQXGA (2560×1600) display packed in a 15.6-inch screen with a 16:10 aspect ratio, and is powered by an 8th-Gen Intel Core processor clubbed with up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM. Graphics is handled by an integrated Intel UHD Graphics, while the onboard storage option is either 256GB or 512GB M.2 SSD. There is an additional SSD slot to add more storage.

LG is marketing its 2019 Gram 17 laptop as one of the lightest – weighing just 1.34 kilograms, while retaining a slim body profile of 380.6×265.7×17.4mm. The laptop rugged build earned it some certifications including military MIL-STD 810G for shock, dust and extreme temperature. It has a precision glass touchpad, a backlit keyboard, and a fingerprint reader.
Connectivity options included are USB Type-C port that is Thunderbolt 3 enabled, 3x USB 3.1 ports, HDMI, HP/Mic Out combo, and a MicroSD card reader. DTS Headphones X tends to audio quality and there is dual mics onboard as well. The whole system relied on a 72Wh battery for power. LG said the battery can render up to 19.5 hours of usage time.
LG Gram 14 (14T990)
The LG Gram 14 is a convertible and in this sense can be used as a laptop as well as a tablet. It features a 14-inch IPS touchscreen with Full HD (1920×1080) resolution and an aspect ratio of 16:9. The display can be flipped up to 360-degree to use in various mode for flexibility of use depending on users interaction, such as when watching a video, or depending on users environment such as when in the office.
The display is Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protected against scratch. Since the Gram 14 has a touch responsive screen, the company is bundling a Wacom AES 2.0 Pen with 4,096 levels of pressure sensitivity and tilt detection in the box for handwriting input, drawing and sketching. The laptop weighs 1.145 kilograms and is 17.9mm thick.
Intel’s 8th-Gen Core processor series powered the hardware, coupled with up to 16GB of DDR4 RAM and up to 512GB of M.2 SSD. There is an additional SSD slot to expand the storage. The Gram 14 is MIL-STD 810G certified for its shock-proof, dustproof and extreme temperature protection. It has a backlit keyboard and a fingerprint reader as the 17-inch model as well.
It however lacked the Thunderbolt 3 port, but instead supports the normal USB 3.1 Type-C port, 2x USB 3.1 ports, HDMI, HP/Mic Out combo, and a MicroSD card reader. There is a fingerprint reader onboard and dual mic. Power is supplied by a 72Wh battery that can deliver up to 21 hours of usage time.
The 2019 edition of the LG Gram 14 and Gram 17 will be showcased at the CES 2019 in January next year.
