As a brand new smartphone, inserting the SIM card for the first time does require network settings to be configured before the phone can be able to connect to the internet. Today, we folks at CCN World Tech will be sharing how Tecno and Infinix Android users can set up their smartphone internet including APN (Access Point Name) and MMS (Multimedia Message). We’ll also provide the default internet configuration settings of major network providers in Nigeria (MTN, GLO, Etisalat a.k.a 9Mobile, Airtel) and Kenya (Safaricom, Airtel).

Like other smartphones running Android OS (operating system), Tecno and Infinix Android phones does not differs much in interface/settings and hence this tutorial can also be use to configure any other phone brand as long as it runs Android OS, though we are limiting the scope to Tecno and Infinix only.

Much things have changed since the era of Android 2.2 Froyo to Android 9.0 Pie, which is the latest for now – the interface, settings, arrangement of icons, status bar, and more. Although the topic says “All Tecno and Infinix Android phones” irrespective of Android version they run, the huge difference inbetween each Android version will force us not to be specific to any device, so, there will be some guesswork for you (reading this post) to do, but we’ll try to make it easy to understand.

Normally, inserting a new SIM into a used phone or an old SIM into a new phone automatically triggers the WEB, APN and MMS configuration to be sent through SMS by a network provider, but not all network provider offer this service. Moreover, some Android phone need to be manually configured. Now, follow the steps below to get started.

In most cases, network configurations can be found in Settings. You can access network configuration either by clicking the Menu button in Homescreen -> Settings or via Status bar (a.k.a Notification bar) -> Quick menu -> Settings. Sometimes, depending on the type of phone, it may not appear as Network but as Wireless connectivity, Mobile data, or Cellular Network. Also, in some phones, you may need to click the More option under Settings before you can access the network setting.

After you have located Network settings, clicking on it should lead you to either GSM/UTMS/LTE options under which you’ll see Access Point Names or it should lead you directly to Access Point Names. Now, in most Infinix and Tecno phones (especially old models) you may need to press the Menu key and select New APN before you can see where you’ll insert the network configurations. On new Tecno/Infinix phones, you may not need to do that.

In the Access Point configuration field, you’ll see what are listed below.

Name
APN
Proxy
Port
Username
Password
Server
MMSC
MMS Proxy
MMS Port
MMS Protocol
MCC
MNC
Authentication Type
